What is involved?
In the world of metal fabrication, it’s interesting to see a finished product and appreciate everything it takes to fabricate the part. There are some parts that we simply laser cut & ship. This is about as basic as metal fabrication gets. Other parts require numerous operations. The part pictured, for example, does not look like a complex part; however, it requires (7) different production operations to complete. “Hemming” in Metal Fabrication
Hemming is a method used in metal fabrication during forming. In the two-step process, the edge of the material is folded over and then flattened onto itself. Hems can be used for a number of reasons. Typically used to improve the appearance of a part, reinforce an edge, or to eliminate the sharp edge of the material. Common applications include parts with a hand-hold, items that are located in high traffic areas, or locations where vulnerable objects (wiring, hoses, tubes, etc.) may rub up against the edge of the material and become damaged. Trumpf Punch Cluster Tool
What do you do when your punched parts need thousands of holes? You use a cluster tool on our Trumpf TruPunch 5000 of course! Instead of punching individual holes, the tool pictured can punch (12) holes simultaneously. Cluster punching is more efficient, reduces cost, and helps reduce wear & tear on the equipment. There are numerous other features available with punching as well (including louvers, embossments, tapping, plus much more – VIDEO). Nitrogen Generator is LIVE!
We took delivery on some new equipment just over two weeks ago (See Post). As of today, our new High Purity Nitrogen Generator is LIVE! We are starting a new chapter at LJ Fabricators and now producing our own unlimited supply of Nitrogen with purity levels up to 99.999%. Previously, our fiber lasers cut with the assistance of either Oxygen or Nitrogen gas. We now have the capability to cut with Oxygen, Nitrogen, mixed gas, or shop-air.
