“Hemming” in Metal Fabrication
November 18, 2021
Hemming is a method used in metal fabrication during forming. In the two-step process, the edge of the material is folded over and then flattened onto itself. Hems can be used for a number of reasons. Typically used to improve the appearance of a part, reinforce an edge, or to eliminate the sharp edge of the material. Common applications include parts with a hand-hold, items that are located in high traffic areas, or locations where vulnerable objects (wiring, hoses, tubes, etc.) may rub up against the edge of the material and become damaged. CONTACT us and let us know if you have a use for hemming.
