Flag Day 2025

This Saturday, June 14th, commemorates the adoption of the American flag by Congress 248 years ago (1777). Flag Day was officially declared a holiday on August 3rd, 1949 by President Harry S. Truman. A few interesting facts about the American flag:

• Our current flag was designed by 17-year old high school student – Robert Heft
• Robert came up with the idea while working on an assignment for History class in 1958
• His flag design was selected from more than 1,500 entries
• Under President Dwight Eisenhower, it became the nation’s official banner on July 4th, 1960
• The 50-star flag has flown the longest of any U.S. Flag (65 years in July)
