LJ Fabricators was established in 1983 by Larry A Johnson at 3535 Kishwaukee Street in Rockford, IL. He initially went into business with a 6,000 square feet facility, one employee, and offered traditional metal fabricating job shop services. By 1987, he had expanded to 11,000 square feet and increased his team of skilled fabricators. In 1989, the first CO2 laser cutting machine was purchased and expanded the company’s capability to process ¼” thick steel.

Through continued year over year growth, the commitment was made to build a new 39,000 square feet facility in 1995 and the business was moved to the current location at 944 Research Parkway. The investment in additional personnel had grown to 20 along with the capabilities expanding greatly to further service customers in various industries while offering a more efficient facility.

In 2003 the facility expanded to 59,000 square feet and included the addition of a 10 ton overhead crane to improve the material handling and safety of increased throughput. The following year the first 4.4kW laser with a 25 shelf material handling tower was implemented. The more recent investments implemented include a 2nd 4.4kW laser in 2007, 2 resistance welders in 2009, a 6kW laser offering full automation with a cutting size capability of 1” thick and a table area of 79” x 159” in 2011. In 2013, our latest equipment offers a fully automated punching system with material handling.

The story of LJ Fabricators has consistently been that of investing in the people who made the company what it is today along with the continued implementation of the most advanced equipment offered in our industry. We have more than doubled our team in the past several years with an emphasis on continued diversification into various industries.
